Boarding flight DAP402 to Antarctica

Written by

On Tuesday 6th Jan, I arrived on King George Island, Antarctica by plane! After much organisation over the past few months and a long journey to Punta Arenas, Chile I am finally here.

Monday was spent meeting up with Dr Sarah Eppley, Dr Todd Rosenstiel and Hannah Prather from Portland State University and Dr Angelica Casanova-Katny from Universidad de Concepcion. I then organised my gear and attended a briefing/induction (in Espanol) at INACH (Chilean Antarctic Institute, Punta Arenas, Chile; below).2015-01-05 18.32.35

My home for the next 2 weeks is the Chilean Base Escudero. The people here are very welcoming and great company.

Internet here is unexpectedly quite good (late at night when not many are using it) allowing me to post this (fingers crossed it works) and there is also mobile phone reception.

More later...
